Since the company is still seeking approval from the government we will hold out on providing all documentation to the driver. We will remain in contact with the driver to answer any questions or concerns. Drivers will be notified ahead of time if approval is granted and be informed on when the company plans to launch operations.
The safety and wellbeing of both drivers and customers is extremely important during the COVID-19 pandemic. If COVID-19 is still a concern when operations launch we will be providing free masks and sanitizer for all drivers to keep in their vehicles. The masks and sanitizer are for both the driver and passengers.
Drivers working with us will be receiving a 75% commission from cost of all rides completed (including GST & excluding service fees). Drivers can expect a payment from the company on a bi-weekly basis via direct deposit. Drivers will be considered independant contractors.
All drivers working with Vancouver Island Ride Hailing will be required to have a commercial driver's license. This includes classes 1, 2, or 4 in British Columbia. If you currently do not have one of the valid licenses our team is willing to provide guidance for you to obtain a class 4 license. For more information on obtaining a class 4 license click here to view ICBC's class 4 license checklist
To ensure the safety of our passengers we will require a drivers abstract from all drivers. The abstract provides the company with a record of any previous driving infractions. It is free to request and is available here on the ICBC website. If you have recently moved to BC from another part of Canada we are also accepting drivers abstract from the province where you moved from.
All ride hailing drivers in the province are required to have a background check completed prior to driving. Background checks will need to be completed annually. For more information on how to obtain a record check click here to view a guide from the RCMP's website
Any ride hailing vehicle in the province can be at most 10 years old. Our company will only be accepting 4 door vehicles. Vehicles will be required to be inspected at any commercial vehicle inspection facility on the island. According to the Passenger Transportation Board, this inspection must be done annually if you drive less than 40,000km per year. If you drive over this limit your vehicle must be inspected semi-annually. The costs associated with getting an inspection will be reimbursed to the driver if they continue driving for at least 2 months. Drivers will also be required to perform a daily pre-trip/post-trip inspection to ensure your vehicle is safe, ICBC provides a pre-trip inspection checklist here. More information about vehicle requirements can be found here on the BC website
Prior to being able to drive for Vancouver Island Ride Hailing we will have a brief in-person interview process to ensure all requirements are met. Following our interview we will have an on-boarding process where we will review our company policies and provide guidance on using our app and any other technical support needed by the driver.
